The 2018 Christmas Gift Guide For Travellers

For the first time in my 36 years on this planet, this year I won’t be spending it in the UK. My parents are due to move abroad imminently so I thought it was time to spread my wings and try something new. Well I say new, I’m going to Thailand and obviously, I have been there before. The difference is it’ll be the first time I have ever spent Christmas away from home and on a beach. For that reason, it felt right to share with you a selection of products that would make the perfect gift for the traveller in your life. Hopefully it’ll give you some ideas!

Hotel Chocolat St Lucian Bath Products – For the Caribbean Traveller

Hotel Chocolat Rabot 1745 Koray perfume and three shell scrub

Hotel Chocolat are about far more than just chocolate to eat these days. They have branched out into beauty products and these gorgeous gift ideas are inspired by the Saint Lucian chocolate plantation and rainforest spa. The Koray Eau De Parfum is reasonably priced at £28 and is a scent that lasts throughout the day. It isn’t overly sweet which, you would normally expect from chocolate. Notes of jasmine and green tea soften out the bergamot and cacao for a rich scent with a touch of floral. The Three Shell Scrub is made with island shells for a chunky body scrub that will polish away those dead skin cells, whilst rich almond and coconut will moisturise for soft smooth skin. The two together in a gift bag would be the perfect gift for the Caribbean lover in your life.

The Best Backpack – For the City Traveller

The Osprey Fairview 40 The inside of the Osprey Fairview 40

If you have read my blog before you will know that I am a huge fan of an Osprey backpack and have several for different occasions. The Fairview 40 is almost a hybrid of a backpack and a carry on bag. It has a handle on the side and zips all the way around like a carry on, but has an ingenious hidden panel at the back which holds straps so you can also carry it on your back. It is designed for women with curved back straps, and has a lots of different pockets to keep things organised. The back panel is rigid for comfort and to also keep a laptop safe. It is cabin sized as well so perfect for a quick city break.

Lonely Planet Travel Guides – For the Unorganised Traveller

I say these are perfect for the unorganised traveller, what I mean is the traveller who has picked their destination, but doesn’t necessarily know what to do when they get there. Every time I book a trip, I buy a Lonely Planet guide book. I love that they take into consideration any budget and I have found some great hidden gems through these guides over the years. In fact, the beach bungalow I am staying at over Christmas was in the Thailand book! If the traveller in your life has a trip planned, I would absolutely recommend you buy them the guide book for that country. It is the perfect easy reading for them to get even more excited, and to get through a dreary January!

The Travel Coffee Cup – For the Sustainable Traveller

The issue around single use plastic and its effect on the planet is more prevalent than ever, and for good reason. I’m becoming more aware of the damaging effects we are having on the planet and have started taking a travel cup with me wherever I go. Some are better than others, some leak like mad and really are frustrating. This beaut from Hydrate M8 is perfect. It is made from BPA free stainless steel with a thermal layer to lock in the heat. It is the perfect size to hold a large coffee and has a double closing seal to keep everything in with no leaks. It is slimmer than most travel coffee cups but that means you can hold and open it with one hand, so perfect for moving about with ease. They come in black, silver or lilac and you can personalise them too, making them a great gift and it slips easily into the bottle holder of most backpacks.

A Multipurpose Travel Notebook – For the Bujo Traveller

Nomad Factory Traveller's Notebook in brown

I am an avid list writer and bullet journaller. I love making records of places I have been and ideas for my next trip so always have a sturdy notebook when I go anywhere. This gorgeous leather travel journal is from The Nomad Factory and is a notebook with a difference. The leather case houses individual notebooks that you can use for different things. They come either lined, grid, plain or dotted so you can journal different things in different ways. I love that you can just take out the notebooks when they are full and replace them, meaning your notebook can be used time and time again. There are file inserts too meaning you can store tickets, money and other items securely, all in one travel system. They come beautifully boxed so are the perfect gift. If you are quick, they also have £10 off at the moment!

Travel Friendly Scents – For the Hand Luggage Traveller

Ormonde Jayne travel perfumes

Travelling with perfume can be a right faff. I love my atomiser and regularly collect perfume samples so I can take a few different scents away with me. Ormonde Jayne have created an exclusive range of elegant scents that are also available in a travel lab. The lab contains five 8ml samples of their scents and there are a few different sets to choose from, meaning you can get the perfect perfume for your loved one. Their fragrances are like nothing I have tried before. They linger for the whole day and I have had the most incredible compliments when wearing them. They are intoxicating and truly unique, you won’t find anything like them elsewhere. Luckily for me, they are now in Selfridges both in Manchester and at the Trafford Centre. My personal favourite is Champaca – it’s floral and heady with a linger of musk and freesia. It is truly beautiful and I think I have found my signature scent. The travel lab allows you to help your loved one find theirs.

The Quirky Scratch Off Map – For the World Traveller

scratch map deluxe edition scratch off world map poster with some countries scratched away

A fun gift for the traveller in your life is this scratch map. Hang it on the wall and, as you visit a new country, use an eraser to remove the top layer of the map to reveal a bright colour underneath highlighting another location ticked off that bucket list. I love how the countries are divided into areas so you can easily scratch off areas you have been rather than a full country. The deluxe edition also has infographics along the bottom that you can scratch off to reveal facts about the countries and oceans you have visited. I am looking forward to getting mine up to date and framing it! At £22.95 it also makes a reasonably priced gift that is a little different to anything else.

The Manchester Themed Case – For the Manc Traveller

The Manchester Kit Kase with a pink zip The interior of the manchester kit kase The zip lock on the Manchester Kit Kase

The ultimate gift for the Mancunian traveller in your life is this amazing Kit Kase, complete with the Manchester bee on the front. As a proud Manc, with a bee tattoo, I get given lots of beautiful bee adorned gifts. This well made case is the perfect way to show the world that pride. It is so perfect, I haven’t even taken the plastic off it yet! It is sturdy, well made and the ideal overnight case. I got the case with a pink zip for a different contrast and it is also lined with pink bees, the detail is second to none. They have a secure lock too which keeps the zips together and stops anyone being able to get inside. I adore it, it is the best present I have ever been given and I think the Mancunian in your life would agree. You can also get it in pink, black with a yellow zip, or with splashes of rainbow.

Happy shopping!

I’ve never been keen on spending Christmas overseas (my in-laws live in Tenerife) but these are some great gift ideas for those that are. I particularly like the scratch map and the notepad. Great post!
