It’s official, at the tender age of 35 I am going to my first festival. Unfortunately the club music, dirty toilets and take away food is not for me – so Festival Number 6 have asked me to be their Food Ambassador!
Festival No. 6 takes place in the magical Portmeirion, North Wales with a bespoke mix of music, arts, culture and food. Between 7th-10th September 2017, some big musical names will descend on the pretty village, joined by some of the best chefs in the world.
Manchester House’s Aiden Byrne takes the reigns at the exquisite kitchen of Hotel Portmeirion, for the Saturday night only to deliver a menu complete with some of his most career renowned dishes. At £69 per person for 5 courses, it is actually incredible value and I look forward to tucking into his creme brûlée with pressed apple terrine, blackberries and bramble ice cream.
Having just booked a holiday to Thailand, I am especially excited to see what Som Saa has to offer. From small plates of muslim style oxtail soup, to lemongrass pork and poached prawn salad, the menu sounds like a taste explosion of fresh and exciting flavours. They’ll be at the Hotel Portmeirion on Friday night.
Closing the culinary extravaganza is Paul Ainsworth, the michelin starred chef who is considered one of the best in Britain. His dessert of chocolate, puff pastry slice, passion fruit curd and vanilla chantilly has certainly sparked my interest.
Each day will see a rolling service between 1pm and 9pm, with stunning views from the hotel over the River Dwyryd estuary. If fine dining isn’t for you there is a vast selection of food and drink pop ups in the Street Food Village that are sure to whet your appetite. Anna Mae’s gourmet mac and cheese, Stakehaus and Pho Sho are just a few of the favourites you can expect to see.
As if the food offering isn’t enough, the acts will perform across the entire site with musicians such as Rag ‘n’ Bone Man and Bloc Party, as well as a number of other activities such as swimming, comedy and cabaret shows, hot tub sessions and paddle boarding, it is one of the most varied festivals I have ever seen.
