Brunch At 19 Cafe Bar, Northern Quarter, Manchester

Brunch in Manchester is my new favourite thing to do on a Sunday. After a busy week of work, university and dog walking, it is so relaxing to sit for a couple of hours and people watch with a decent plate of food. There are loads of great spots in Manchester that flood my social media timelines but somewhere I was invited recently, was unknown to me, but it shouldn’t be unknown to you.

19 Cafe Bar  is on Lever Street just off Piccadilly Gardens and the perfect spot to people watch. Floor to ceiling windows let in the midday sun whilst rustic brick decor and wood panelling give it an urban feel, perfect for its Northern Quarter location. On Sunday lunch time the cafe was bustling with groups of lads eating breakfast and catching up over coffee.

There’s coffee and cake, should you want it, a good selection of brunch dishes and an evening menu of sharing platters or pizza with cocktails to keep you fuelled throughout the day. I had planned on trying the meal deal which includes a panini and soup but the breakfast dishes looked too good to pass up.

My friend chose a healthier option with the open bagel smothered in cream cheese, topped with slices of smoked salmon and poached eggs. The eggs were perfectly runny in the centre and the golden yolk coated the bagels enabling him to polish off the lot with me barely getting a look in. I chose the eggs benedict, which is a standard choice for me where it is on the menu. Here the muffins are on the smaller side but there are three halves which totally makes up for it. The parma ham is lovely and salty to match with the rich yolk of the runny eggs and the slight sourness of the hollandaise. I struggled to finish it all but you will be pleased to hear I managed it, and I’ll definitely order it again.

19 Cafe Bar has an interesting cocktail menu that is very reasonably priced and some great ales if that is your thing. My friend got in the mood for our pending American road trip with a bottle of 13 Guns IPA and I went for an espresso martini, well it is coffee after all. The locally roasted coffee is delicious and the cocktail was the perfect pick me up before some sales shopping.

Now I know 19 Cafe Bar is there it is certainly somewhere I would head with my laptop when I have work to do. It is also one of those places where I would feel completely comfortable on my own and that is a dying breed for me in the City at the moment. A platter of cheese and a cocktail, if I’m meeting you soon you have my permission to be late.

I was invited to dine at 19 Cafe Bar as a guest and was not asked to pay.
