You only have to read a couple of my blog posts to realise how much I love Manchester. It has been my home the whole of my life and, whilst part of me wishes I’d spent time living abroad, I’ll never regret staying here as long as I have. I know the place inside and out, it is home. So when I was invited to spend the night with a group of bloggers to discuss fashion and all things blogging, I thought I’d already know everything they had to say.
Things started well with food and wine at Fumo. I’ve been to Fumo before but only for cocktails so I was excited to see what the food had to offer.
What followed was some of the nicest Italian food I have had the pleasure of eating in this City. The spaghetti bolognaise was rich and meaty with perfectly al dente pasta, the duck salad a lovely healthy option topped with sharp apples and the aubergine with a good kick of garlic and a beautifully creamy mozzarella were clear stars. The pizzas were so good they were snapped up before I could even get a photograph. I’ve whinged many a time about the lack of a decent pizza in this City and Fumo may be the best, I say may because I am yet to try them all so will reserve judgement.
The evening was hosted by Megan of Pages By Megan who, although has moved to the dark side (London to Mancunians), is from Manchester and still knows some of the best places the City has to offer in terms of fashion. Have a read of her post but I was surprised. I thought I was pretty clued up on our fashion scene but I hadn’t heard of a lot of the boutiques she mentions in her post! We were set the challenge to see what gems we could find the next day after a good night’s sleep at the Premier Inn and whilst I left the majority of ladies heading into the night, I retired to the squishy bed I had been offered.
The Piccadilly Premier Inn is in a great location just at the bottom of the ramp of Piccadilly on Dale Street so a fairly quiet spot that is still a mere 5 minutes walk from the busy railway station. Premier Inn guarantee a good night’s sleep and I can see exactly how they do that. The mattress is thick and topped so just squishy enough to sink into, the duvet was twice as thick as mine at home and the pillows helped me drift off almost instantly.
The bathroom is quite clinical but fit for purpose with a shower over the bath and wall mounted hand and body wash. I much prefer separate bottles of shower gel but Premier Inn are considered a budget line so if this helps to bring their prices down I’m more than happy. Check out is noon meaning I got to have the nicest lie in and I slept soundly all night, it is definitely somewhere I will return to.
After breakfast we were sent on our way into the streets of Manchester to explore Megan’s recommendations for shopping and to see what outfit we could put together. Unfortunately, the negative element of Manchester prevailed and it hammered down all morning. For this reason I headed straight to the Arndale Centre for some cover but found some great bargains in New Look.
Inspired by my recent trip to South Africa (post to come soon) I couldn’t leave this pretty tunic dress on the rack and it was a bargainous price of £5 in the sale. I can’t find it on their website but they sell this style of dress most summers with a handy elasticated waist which I feel gives it, and me, a great shape. Whilst it is a summer piece I bought these beautiful boots to wear with it and I’ll be pairing them with my thickest of black tights.
I’ve been after a pair of black ankle boots for ages but they always either have too slim a heel to be comfortable or are too high for me to walk in. These (available online) are just £29.99 and, thanks to the block heel and underfoot padding, are super wearable. The snakeskin effect on the heel and sole make them a little bit different and the buckle trim makes them on trend for the winter. I am totally in love with them and feel I may need to buy a second pair as I can see them living on my feet for the next few months!
Thanks to Premier Inn for providing my bed for the night and proving the hashtag for the evening, #SleepWellShopWell, to be true. Also to Propellernet and Front Row Society for the fabulous evening and introducing me to some new shopping spots to try. I can’t wait to explore more.
