Manchester Food and Drink Festival 2013 Sausage-Off!

This week has seen the start of the 15th Manchester Food and Drink Festival to grace our amazing city. You will find some amazing food and drink stalls dotted around the city with the majority pitched in Albert augmentin 125 mg Square at the Hub. I can personally vouch for the wine from Bakerie which comes with a slab of free foccacia when you buy 2 glasses as well as the special cocktails from Apotheca that includes a particularly good tequila slushy. Food wise I’d go for a wood fired pizza from Pizza Peddlers or a chicken and halloumi burger from Mumma Schnitzel.

As if this array of amazing food and drink isn’t enough you can also attend numerous events across the city. The list of available events can be found on the website HERE but there are master classes such as free pasta making with Cibo and next weekend will see Drinks Enthusiast host the Liquor Theatre at Rosylee Tearooms in the Northern Quarter: Both are not to be missed.

As part of the festivities Gordo from Manchester Confidential set sausage makers of the North West a challenge. He was particularly disappointed with the standard of sausage on his breakfast at Albert Square Chophouse on his last visit. He knew the butchers of the North could do better and set about to prove it by challenging them to a sausage off. 5 sausage makers provided their best banger for a blind tasting with the winner making its way onto the Chophouse’s breakfast menu.

When invited to be a judge I jumped at the chance and fully embraced the sausage innuendos that followed on Facebook and Twitter. It would be rude not to. Fork and score card in hand Charlie, Jay and I tucked in considering how each sausage would fair with bacon, eggs and beans of a morning. No mean feat when faced with 5 excellently tasting sausages! Picking our favourite in secret we handed in our scorecards and awaited the winner.

Unanimous winner and the breakfast banger of choice came from Pig&Co in Cheshire! It’s spicy yet soft and crumbly texture won over the judges and will be gracing the menu at Albert Square Chophouse soon. Make sure you pop in and try it, I did name it a winner after all.
