When anyone asks me for the best place to get a cocktail in Manchester I never hesitate to recommend Elixir on Deansgate. Situated opposite John Rylands Library it has become a firm favourite of mine for the vintage style interior and magical cocktails served with treats and mixed with flair. Last week the bar was transformed into the perfect garden party complete with flower garlands, a welcome ‘grass carpet’ and a camper van outside!
Ten new cocktails have been added to the menu of tonic and treats for summer and we were lucky to try some of them on the evening.
The Forget Me Not is a floral mix of violet liqueur, lavender syrup, cranberry and lemon juice with a mini bottle of Prosecco to create a parma violet style drink complete with the fizzy touch I often crave when out for drinks.
The Flutter Bye, inspired by butterflies fluttering in the summer breeze, mixes Stolichnaya citrus, elderflower, elderflower and rose liqueur, egg white and apple juice on a bed of grass with edible butterflies and chocolate ladybirds. A feast for both the eyes and the palate I scoffed most of our groups’ ladybird chocolates. They were too delicious to ignore.
Unlike anything I have avodart online tasted before was the Beekeeper. Gin, apple liqueur, honey, apple and lemon juice served with a royal jelly injection gives a hefty nod to Manchester’s bee mascot in a sweet yet beautifully floral cocktail with a bitter undertone.
The fun continued well into the night with local celebrities hitting the secret powder room where hair and make up was being touched up before a ‘truth or dare’ drinking game to keep everyone on their toes.
It was certainly an experience to drink cocktails inside a camper van parked on Deansgate with a flower garland in my hair. The weather played ball as well with bright sunshine and a balmy evening to set just the right setting for the perfect garden party.
Rain or shine though, pop in. I was delighted to see my favourite Lovelace martini is still on the menu. I always send people in just for that and not one has been disappointed, I don’t think you will be either.
