Beauty – The Science Behind Estee Lauder And My Favourite Picks

When I buy make up I rarely think about what goes into it other than animal cruelty issues. I am all about the pretty colours, dreamy blends and the latest brands. One of the oldest brands I use is Estee Lauder and I swear by their Double Wear foundation. I know it is heavy and full coverage but it matches my skin like no other and leaves my skin looking flawless all day. One thing I didn’t know is how much research and science they use to get the perfect product for their customer base.

I was lucky enough to call in Debenhams recently when the global Estee Lauder team were in town with their scientists, yes they have those!

Their innovative equipment is helping Estee Lauder to ‘foundation the nation’ by taking images of women’s skin all over the world to make sure they not only have enough shades for their Double Wear foundation, but the right shades. At the moment there are 54 shades and Estee Lauder are committed to making sure that they can cater for the majority of women all over the world.

The scientists took photographs of our skin in different light settings including UV so we could see how much sun damage there was, the one I was most worried about! Apparently my skin isn’t damaged which was a relief although you could clearly see where I use the most sun screen. We moved onto the different pigments in my skin and how these are used to design the different shades of foundation, it was fascinating and I was amazed how much goes into making sure the product is perfect.

For the photographs to be taken my makeup had to be removed but they didn’t let me leave without a new base and a sweep of lipstick applied by none other than their National make up artist under the watchful eye of their Global make up artist, I was in total awe of their make up awesomeness. The first thing I discovered is that I was wearing the totally wrong shade of Double Wear. I have always believed myself to be the shade Pebble when in fact I am Pale buy cheap cymbalta online Almond! They are quite similar but Pale Almond has a more pink undertone which works so much better with my skin tone.

Another Estee Lauder product I am obsessed with is Advanced Night Repair serum which I have written about before. The most recent addition to the Advanced Night Repair collection is these sheet masks. There is an eye and a face mask which are impregnated with a concentrated Advanced Night Repair blend. They also give instant results with more hydrated, plump and smooth skin. They are not cheap at £10 for an eye mask and £16 for a face mask they are for those special occasions but really offer the results they promise, well worth it.

I usually use a mattifying primer under Double Wear but was given The Illuminator to try and it works so much better. It gives my skin a dewy appearance that shines through the foundation beautifully without making it look oily or damaging its staying power. It costs £25 but lasts ages.

I wear nothing but nude lipsticks. I know they suit me and I also know that they are easy to apply without drawing too much attention to me. That is until I met this sexy number. This Pure Colour Envy Lipstick is soft, moisturising and saturated with colour meaning the colour looks shiny and glossy on the lips whilst also lasting. It has multi faceted pigments to help sculpt the lips and the cream formula keeps the lips looking healthy and full of colour for hours. This brown red colour called Emotional really suits my slightly paler skin tone and compliments my thinner lips so well. The sculpting effect makes my lips look fuller and I am obsessed with it as a shade, I never would have thought I would wear red lipstick ever! At £25.50 they are at the higher end of the price spectrum but I already have my eye on their nude shades. Old habits die hard.

Can we also just take in how cute this make up bag from The Lifestyle Blogger UK is? I love the cute Paris theme and it is a great size for travelling as it will fit in all my essentials.

What do you love from the Estee Lauder range?

I too am a pale almond! Bought a few weeks ago after loads of recommendations. am still getting used to fuller coverage (I’ve been using Bare Mineral powder for years) but now I know a little goes a long way I love it. Never felt confidence from a foundation before!

I tested 6 foundations for Stylist magazine and my fave was double wear foundation. I think the one I have is a little too pale for me but I will get some sample sachets in different shades next time I am near a counter
