The word ‘peel’ still freaks me out somewhat. After watching the episode of Sex and the City where Samantha has a peel and it removes the top layer of her skin revealing a red horrifying mess, I panic that anything with the word ‘peel’ in will leave me with similar results. I am getting better, I have had a facial peel and have used products labelled as peels so I am trying to keep upping my confidence in the hope that they will reveal beautifully smooth skin and radiance like nothing else. The latest product for me to try in this quest is Superdrug’s Optimum Skin Illuminating Glycolic Overnight Peel.
The pump top bottle is easy to use and streamlined in appearance with a neutral grey colour that won’t take the limelight on your dressing table.
Containing glycolic acid to plump the skin and smooth fine lines, the ingredients are fairly scientific sounding although I can’t really find any research to say their benefits or whether they work in tests. When dispensed the product is a clear light gel that should be smoothed onto the skin before bed then rinsed away in the morning before cleansing. I expected to have a sticky face all night and leave a stupid amount of residue on the pillow but this applies like a serum and set with a slight sheen rather than a sticky mess making it perfect for sleeping in. I fully expected my skin to look wrinkled where the mask had set but the gel had almost sunk into my skin even though, when removing, I could tell the product was still there if that makes sense? It was easy to remove and I was amazed at how smooth my skin felt the next day. My makeup glided on better than normal and there was no redness which I usually get in the morning. After repeated use I have found my skin smoother, clearer and the fine lines around my eyes are a lot softer and easier to disguise.
Retailing at just £12.99 I am really impressed with this product and I love the ease of popping it on before bed, gone are the days of sitting still for 20 minutes whilst a face mask does its job! I will definitely buy this when my bottle runs out, it is also a bonus that an unexpectedly rude awakening by the post man doesn’t leave him traumatised by how my face looks, something that has happened to me on more than one occasion mid face mask treatment. At least the less frights for him means he doesn’t need wrinkle products just yet.
