Hair salons are becoming a much of a muchness right now. Comfortable chairs, a friendly hair dresser happily chatting before grabbing you a brew. You leave with that ‘just done’ swish and lightness that only a new do can achieve. It is lovely and I look forward to spending a few hours in the hairdressers, but people are crying out for something a bit different. If that is you, let me introduce you to RCNQ in the Northern Quarter.
RCNQ is in the heart of the Northern Quarter area of Manchester. For those who aren’t familiar with this district of my city, it is bohemian, eclectic and if you are looking for something a little more alternative, you will find it here. I mean where else would you be greeted by a pastel coloured piano?
Inside is rustic with exposed wooden floorboards and large mirrors so you can actually see what is going on with your hair at all times. I was lucky enough to have an appointment with senior stylist Danielle who is an expert in colour and everything to do with it. For that reason I decided to do something pretty risky and move away from my blonde highlights to a new colour hue, rose gold.
I know rose gold hair is ridiculously ‘blogger’ of me but I couldn’t resist and had done loads of research on my perfect colour before heading into RCNQ. Danielle is straight talking, honest and funny with one of those personalities that can literally get on with anyone. She set me straight by pretty much dismissing most of the images I had chosen (all too ‘pink and light’) and suggesting something closer to my own hair colour therefore creating a more natural and manageable look. I put myself firmly in her hands and let her do her magic.
Her magic consisted of lots of blonde highlights underneath a rose gold toner not only to give me the colour that would suit me best, but also to maintain a great look once the toner had wore off.
My hair felt instantly thicker, glossier and soft to the touch. The colour faded to highlighted blonde and at no point during the fading process did it look odd or out of place.
What makes RCNQ unique isn’t just the magic they can work with your hair, it is the staff. They all have their own expert areas and add their personalities into your hair. Their website gives a rundown of all the team and how they can help you with your hair needs. It is very ‘Northern Quarter’, but you are welcome and will leave with perfect hair to boot. Now to return to revisit that rose gold blogger hair.
I was invited as a guest and not asked to pay for my hair do.
